I was flying to Barbados ( BGI) from Mumbai with my wife for our first holiday together. I had taken Barbados visa for both of us from NY. Before booking my flights I called Emirates Airlines and checked if we would need a transit visa for UK as all flights seem to go through London or US. Emirates said No, as long as we have a visa for Barbados we are ok. I booked a ticket from an online portal ( BOM-Dubai-LGW-BGI ) & back. The first two legs on Emirates then LGW-BGI on Virgin atlantic... to my luck ticket was issued by Virgin atlantic.

We checked in at Mumbai and got boarding passes till London ( LGW)... we reached Dubai , but were not allowed to go any further by Emirates Security as we did not have a London transit visa :P.

After 8 hours of fighting with Emirates Airlines staff, they accepted that they made a mistake and re-routed us through Sao Paulo , Brazil(GRU) , but the flight left 2 days later and had a 24 hours layover at Brazil. The Emirates staff assured us that we do not need a transit visa if we go through Brazil and return flight through london would also not be an issue as we are coming from the west :P. Our flights from GRU to BGI ( Barbados) was on Gol Airlines ( Local carrier of Brazil)

After 20 hours of wait at GRU airport, GOl airlines did not allow us to check in as they did not have our return flight information. Emirates had failed to send them our return itinerary. We showed them print outs of the itinerary but that just a piece of paper for them. I spent an hour with Emirates on the phone , as there was no local counter open, but they were not able to get this info. to Gol airlines. Gol airlines staff told us that Emirates has made this mistake and they cannot do anything about it.

To our luck there was no other flight to BGI for a week... so we were deported back to Dubai and then to Mumbai... When we reached Dubai, Emirates told us we were deported because we did not have a transit visa for london and our return trip was through london.

I want to know how can I file a case against Emirates airlines... can you recommend any good lawyers?
