I am writing this with regard to my horrible experience I had with CHENNAI MOVERS & PACKERS. I reside in Chennai and I was to move to US on a deputation for 2 years. This was the first chance I got to travel abroad in my 10 years of career and was very excited about it. In this regard I wanted to move all a few of my house hold articles (TV, Sofa (3+2), Cot and other house hold items) to my home town in Kollam, Kerala.

So, I called up Chennai Movers & Packers on the 25th of October’11 to enquire about the details (duration, cost etc). At that time a lady (Ms./Mrs. Sumathi ) answered the call, I specifically told her that I am available on Kollam only for two days (12 &13 November’11) after which I am going to US, I told them to take the order only if they can deliver the items in any of the mentioned two days.

Initially the lady was very polite and told that “Sir this is only October and you want this to delivered only on the 12&13 of November, it only two day for the things to be sent from Chennai to Kollam” and asked me to call on the 5th of November to book the parcel. I was little concerned if they miss the dates 12th & 13th then I will be in trouble, so I insisted that they pick up the parcel earlier. Then I was asked to call on the 4th of November’11 and confirm the booking. As said I called on the 4th of November and booked for the consignment to be delivered on the 12th or 13th of November.

I re insisted that this should be delivered in the dates mentioned and again I got the same dialog form Ms./Mrs. Sumathi, “Sir, we just need two days to be delivered and you are sending 7 days in advance so it 100% sure that the things will be delivered on the 12th itself”. I said ok and they quoted me 12K initially then came down to 8.5K.

As booked the pickup Van came to my house in Chennai on Monday, 7th November’11 at around 8.00 Am and packed up and loaded all the things that was meant to be sent to Kollam. I billed me 8.5K in full and I made the payment by cash and confirmed with the pickup person will it be delivered on the 12th or 13th of November’11 and he said will be delivered for sure.

After the pickup van left my house, I called up the Chennai Movers and Packers Office and told them that their people have picked the items and reminded them that I am available in Kollam only on the 12th and 13th of November and I want it to be delivered on the specific dates as promised, Ms./Mrs. Sumathi again told me “Sir there is five days in between so do not worry and will be there as promised. I was happy about the commitment given to me by Ms./Mrs. Sumathi.

From then on I used to call their office every day and each day Ms./Mrs. Sumathi answers the call and informs me that no worries the delivery of the goods is on time. Finally, Friday, 11th November came and I boarded the train from Chennai to Kollam, before taking the train I called their office again and Ms./Mrs. Sumathi told me “tomorrow your items will be there for sure”, I said thank you and started my Journey.
I reached Kollam on 12th November morning and at around 11.30 I called Chennai Movers and Packers to tell them that I reached Kollam and waiting for the packages to be delivered, again Ms./Mrs. Sumathi answered my call and to my God’s surprise this is what I heard from Ms./Mrs. Sumathi “Sorry sir, things will not be delivered today” and asked when It will be delivered the answer was “theriyathu sir (in Tamil), which means I don’t know”. After so much follow-up and conformation till the last minute and now they say they dint know when it will be delivered. I was shocked by the answer given by Ms./Mrs. Sumathi and told her I wanted to speak to their manager.

I ended up speaking to one Mr. Balaji claiming to be the manager and if that is the truth believe me he should be the worst manager I came across in my life. His answer was so rude say “We don’t know and we never committed the time and this is not a full package and we cannot give a date when this will come to your place. I ran through all the history and told him I need it tomorrow what so ever. I hung the phone on me just by saying “we don’t know”.

I need to leave Kollam back to Chennai for my trip to US. Was completely in a helpless situation. On Sunday, Mr. Balaji called me and told “Sir, you things will be delivered on Monday (the next day) maximum by 10.00PM.

I though, OK happened is happened and will wait and collect the items and the leave to Chennai by flight on Tuesday. Waited the whole day on Monday nothing happened I called them and told this is not happening, Ms./Mrs. Sumathi told me I am sorry I will get it on Friday, 18th November, I am in a helpless situation so I said OK and arranged my neighbors maid to stay at my to collect the things and paid her Rs. 150 per day for that . Same result the things did not come on Friday, 18th Nov and they gave me excuses. Finally said will give it the next Wednesday, on the 22nd of November.

In the meantime the servant maid said she cannot stay any longer. Just to collect the things I had to send my dad who is a chronic heart patient to Kollam and stay there for a week. Finally the things came in today 28th November after all the hassles; my trip to US was postponed to December because of this and now in a situation if that would be confirmed.

So summary, goods that were promised to be deliver in 2 day took 21 days, close to 100 phone calls, abusive languages on the phone, pay my servant maid for 10 days, travel charges for my sick dad and on top of this one of the glass item (TV Stand) that was deliver was broken in to pieces. Couple of incidents that added to my frustration and forced me put this complaint is that one, when I informed Ms./Mrs. Sumathi that I am fed up and going to complain in consumer forum, she casually said please go ahead and do what you can.

Secondly, on an instance she kept me on hold to follow-up on the package to someone else in the office and that person is advising Ms./Mrs. Sumathi, why answer the call and Ms./Mrs. Sumathi replying to him “Sir, he is calling to the landline so I don’t know who was calling, if it was mobile phone I would have cut the call” please understand the attitude of the people working there. In short CHENNAI MOVERS AND PACKERS are just a bunch of liars who just give importance to money and not the service promised and top of that there careless attitude towards customer as if they don’t care what ever the problem the customer faces they will go by their wish and will.

In case someone is planning to relocate or use the services of packers and movers please DO NOT consider CHENNAI MOVERS AND PACKER they are just liars who focus only on your money and nothing else. My receipt no is 1449 and consignment booking number is 3255.

Dear Vinod.. Its really terrible that customers are subjected to such inhuman treatment after taking money, in advance, by callous service providers like these. Your feedback will surely help other users in taking appropriate decision. Though there are consumer protection act and other laws, consumers are still at mercy of service providers since they know they can get away.
