Four persons, including a student from SRCC and a cyber cafe owner, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the Ramjas fake marksheet scam. According to police, the four were only middlemen who passed on the documents and the money to their mastermind, who is yet to be identified. Sahil, Mukul, Sanchit and Rahul were arrested on Friday and booked in cases of cheating and forgery. Sahil is a second-year B Com (Hons) student at SRCC, Mukul is a second-year student at Ramjas College. Sanchit is a college dropout from Ramjas while Rahul runs a cyber cafe,” said IB Rani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North). Police said the youth disclosed that they charged anything between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 6 lakh for each admission. According to police, the fake marksheets were printed at Rahul’s cyber cafe in Vijay Vihar. They were attached to the remaining documents and handed over to their mastermind. In all, 28 cases have been registered on the basis of complaints from the Ramjas College Principal Rajender Prasad. Police received seven more complaints, taking the total to 35 cases, which are being probed. “We are yet to obtain the relevant documents in the case before we implicate anyone in the case,” said a police officer. Police said that the accused named in the 28 FIRs are mostly “above average students”, whose marks were increased by 10 to 15 per cent by the accused. “Most of the students scored about 75 to 80 per cent marks, these were increased to meet the cut-off limit — mostly in the nineties,” said the officer. |
