Three months after TOI first reported about an organised admission racket operating from Ramjas College, five chargesheets have been filed against former students and a college lab assistant who masterminded the operation. Investigators said on Wednesday that more chargesheets will follow detailing flaws in the admission process. After the college got embroiled in the scam, principal Rajender Prasad approached Delhi Police to probe fake admissions in first year courses - BA, B.Com and Economic (H). Thirty-six FIRs were lodged and 17 persons arrested, including former DU students Naresh Tau, Vardhan Choudhary and Anurag Sharma. The insider role was unearthed with the arrest of college employees, Suresh Chand and Raje Singh, who facilitated the admissions. Delhi Police said different ring leaders ran their own rackets on the campus. They charged between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh from students seeking admission. Gang leaders Anurag Sharma and Naresh Tau had connived with the botany lab assistant, Suresh Chand, who was on the admission committee. Chand was paid a hefty commission for every admission he cleared," a police officer said. Delhi Police had also questioned candidates who were approached by gang members with admission offers. Kingpin Naresh Tau and cyber cafe owner Rahul churned out forged marksheets of Class XII students at Vijay Nagar. Similiarly, Anurag Sharma alias Pandit lured students. They also prepared fake identity cards. The admission files were cleared by Chand," an officer said. During interrogation of Ramjas employees who signed on the admission papers, Delhi Police found there was no mechanism to check the authenticity of marksheets. The botched admission process at the college will find mention in future chargesheets. Delhi Police has included statements of students, forensic report of forged marksheets, circumstantial evidence, phone details, bank transactions and confessions of the accused. Also, statements of Ramjas employees, parents find mention in the five chargesheets. DCP North district, I B Rani said, "chargesheets have been filed in cases where investigations were completed. More chargesheets will follow". The chargesheets state that modus operandi of ring leaders was similar. One of the main conspirators, Naresh Tau, had even opened a restaurant in Kamala Nagar. Police suspect he ploughed in the scam money to further his business venture. NSUI leader Vardhan Choudhary had also been arrested in the scam, but he is yet to be chargesheeted. |
